Seniors rejoice in faith and community
Approximately 60 seniors from parishes across South Jersey gathered at Sacred Heart Church in Christ the Good Shepherd Parish on Oct. 4 for the annual Mass for Centenarians, Nonagenarians and Octogenarians. Sponsored by VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services of the Diocese of Camden, the event provided an opportunity for elderly Catholics to participate in the liturgy and socialize during a reception in the parish hall.
Christine Willard, the director of senior ministries and marketing for VITALity, said the gathering allows this age group to be recognized for their gifts to the diocese while sharing a meal together. For attendees like 98-year-old Martha Strittmatter, the Mass offered a meaningful way to practice her faith, as she now relies on family members for transportation to church.
