Archdiocese of Sydney to hold Walk with Christ procession

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

The Archdiocese of Sydney will hold its annual Walk with Christ Eucharistic procession on Sunday, 22 November. The event coincides with the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, marking the centenary of the feast.

A festival will begin in Martin Place at 1pm, followed by the procession which starts at 2.30pm from the corner of Martin Place and Pitt Street. According to InfoCatólica, the archdiocese intends to double participation for this year's event.

The timing honors the 100th anniversary of the Feast of Christ the King, which Pope Pius XI established in his 1925 encyclical Quas Primas. Fr Bijoy Joseph, the Director of Liturgy for the International Eucharistic Congress, noted that the Pope created the feast to respond to spreading secularism and to proclaim the kingship of Christ openly through public acts like processions.
