Latin Church metropolitan archdiocese founded as a vicariate apostolic in 1834 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1842. It is the metropolitan see for the ecclesiastical province of Sydney and has been led by Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP since 2014.

History
Erected in 1842 with its episcopal see at Sydney, New South Wales, the Archdiocese of Sydney (Latin: Archidioecesis Sydneyensis) is a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church. As metropolitan see it presides over the suffragan dioceses of Armidale, Bathurst, Broken Bay, Lismore, Maitland-Newcastle, Parramatta, Wagga Wagga, Wilcannia-Forbes and Wollongong.
