St. Paul serves as the mother church for the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham. The cathedral is dedicated to Paul the Apostle and dates from 1893. Adolphus Druiding designed it in the Gothic Revival style. It is listed as a historic place on the National Register. The see was erected in 1969.
