History

Some 40 km (25 miles) south-west of the coastal city of Bari, in Apulia, southern Italy, lies the Latin Church diocese of Altamura-Gravina-Acquaviva delle Fonti (Latin: Dioecesis Altamurensis-Gravinensis-Aquavievensis). It took its present shape in 1986, when the territorial prelature of Altamura e Acquaviva delle Fonti was joined to the diocese of Gravina. A suffragan of the archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto, the diocese seats its bishop at Altamura Cathedral, with Acquaviva Cathedral and Gravina Cathedral serving as co-cathedrals.
