    The Diocese of Assisi–Nocera Umbra–Gualdo Tadino has opened the Porta di Francesco, an ancient entrance to the bishop's residence used by Saint Francis on several occasions. The opening reveals a medieval square and the original facade of the bishop's palace, which were discovered beneath the current level of the Santuario della Spogliazione complex. Guided tours of the underground area are available through 12 October. Visitors can join tours at 11, 12, 15, and 16.30. Participants must arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time or book in advance through the Sanctuary website or via email. On 27 September, the opening included a performance of scenes from the musical San Francesco e il Cantico by the San Carlo theater company from Foligno. The day concludes with vespers and a sermon at the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore.

    Bishop Felice Accrocca released the 13th installment of his Franciscan series, titled FeliCitazioni francescane, on September 25. In this entry, the bishop of Assisi, Nocera Umbra, Gualdo Tadino, and Foligno examines how Saint Francis used his final days to practice altruism and teaching. Accrocca describes how Francis requested to be returned to the Porziuncola as his health declined. During this time, Francis asked that Jacopa dei Settesogli be informed of his condition so she could provide a coarse cloth for a habit and mostaccioli, a sweet made of almonds, sugar or honey. Jacopa arrived with these items, but Francis was only able to taste a small amount due to his physical weakness. Francis also remembered his companion, Brother Bernardo, and suggested that the sweets would please him.

    Bishop Felice Accrocca published the eleventh installment of his Franciscan series, titled "Francis the clandestine who opens our eyes and heart," on September 11. The article, part of the "FeliCitazioni francescane" column, explores how immigrants can serve as resources. In the text, Accrocca, who serves the Diocese of Assisi–Nocera Umbra–Gualdo Tadino and Foligno, uses a story from Thomas of Celano to illustrate his point. The account describes how Saint Francis attempted to travel to Syria but ended up in Dalmatia due to contrary winds. To continue his journey, Francis and a companion boarded a ship to Ancona in secret because the sailors had refused them due to insufficient food supplies. Accrocca notes that after Francis boarded the vessel clandestinely, a man provided food for the hidden travelers. During a subsequent storm that delayed the voyage, the food belonging to Francis multiplied to the point that it satisfied the needs of everyone on board until they reached port.
