History
Split off from the Diocese of Enugu on July 5, 2005, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Awgu (Dioecesis Auguensis) in Nigeria is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Onitsha. John Ifeanyichukwu Okoye is its first bishop. The largest church in the diocese, the St. Michael Archangel Parish Church in Awgu, will accordingly become its cathedral.
