History

Southeastern Italy's Puglia (Apulia) region, the country's 'Heel', holds the metropolitan Latin Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto (Latin: Archidioecesis Barensis-Bituntina), covering the administrative Bari province. The see took its present form in 1986, when the historical diocese of Bitonto was absorbed into the Archdiocese of Bari.
