The Diocese of Hamilton is a Latin Church diocese in southwestern Ontario, erected in 1856 and suffragan to the Archdiocese of Toronto. Joseph Dabrowski, CSMA, became its 10th bishop, taking possession of the see in February 2026.

History

A suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese in Toronto, the Diocese of Hamilton (Latin: Dioecesis Hamiltonensis) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in Canada. Its cathedral in Hamilton, Ontario is the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, dedicated to Christ the King in 1933. Hamilton also holds a former cathedral, St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral, and Guelph, Ontario has a minor basilica, Our Lady Immaculate.

    Bishop Pierre Goudreault presented the President’s Annual Report to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops during the opening of their annual Plenary Assembly in Montreal on Sept. 21, 2026. The report reviewed the activities and achievements of the conference since the 2025 meeting. Key developments highlighted in the report include the transfer of 62 cultural artifacts from the Vatican Museums to the National Indigenous Organizations and the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation. This gift from Pope Leo XIV is part of efforts toward healing and reconciliation between the Catholic Church and Indigenous Peoples. Other highlighted achievements include the continued implementation of synodality in Canada, the creation of a national Service for Migrant and Refugee Ministry, and efforts to increase engagement with the federal government. During the assembly, the bishops also approved a letter to Pope Leo XIV. Signed by Bishop Goudreault on behalf of the attending bishops, the letter asks for the Pope's prayers as the conference discerns its pastoral priorities for the upcoming year.

    Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified on Thursday, Sept. 24, during a Mass at noon PDT inside the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis. The beatification honors the archbishop for using radio and television to evangelize. Sheen hosted the program Life Is Worth Living on television and earned three Emmy awards, reaching nightly audiences of up to 30 million people. He also broadcast on the radio.
