History

In Campania, southern Italy, the Diocese of Caserta (Latin: Dioecesis Casertana) stands as a Latin suffragan of the Archdiocese of Naples. Pope Pius VII joined this see to the diocese of Caiazzo in 1818, but Pope Pius IX later separated them again. The ratio of priests to faithful has thinned in recent years: one priest for every 1,703 Catholics in 2013, one for every 2,008 in 2016. As of 2019 the diocesan Major Seminary had four seminarians.
