History
In the Swiss village of Einsiedeln stands Einsiedeln Abbey (German: Kloster Einsiedeln), a Catholic monastery in the care of the Benedictine Order. It ranks among the most important baroque monastic sites and is the largest place of pilgrimage in Switzerland: the Black Madonna of Einsiedeln, kept in the Chapel of Grace, draws roughly 800,000 pilgrims and tourists each year. The resident community of Benedictine monks numbers around 40.
