The Archdiocese of Chicago, erected as a diocese in 1843 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1880, serves Cook and Lake counties in Illinois. It is the metropolitan see of the Ecclesiastical Province of Chicago and has been led by Cardinal Blase J. Cupich since 2014.
