Latin Church

Latin-rite diocese (Funing, seated at Xiapu, corresponding to the Mindong region of Ningde) in northeastern Fujian province, China, erected in 1923 as an apostolic vicariate and elevated to the Diocese of Funing in 1946. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Fuzhou, it is led by Bishop Vincent Zhan Silu, recognized by the Holy See under the 2018 Sino-Vatican agreement.

History

Centered in the Chinese province of Fujian, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Funing, also called Xiapu (Latin: Funimen(sis), simplified Chinese: 福宁 / 霞浦; traditional Chinese: 福寧 /霞浦; pinyin: Fúníng / Xiápǔ), covers the municipal region of Ningde (formerly Funing) and belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Fuzhou.
