Latin rite diocese in the northwestern Dominican Republic, erected on 16 January 1978 as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros. Its seat is the Catedral Santa Cruz in Mao, Valverde. Bishop Diomedes Espinal de Leon has led the diocese since 24 May 2006.

A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mao-Monte Cristi (Latin: Dioecesis Maoënsis-Montis Christi) was erected on 16 January 1978.
