Archdiocese of Oviedo

History

Erected in the 9th century and raised to an archdiocese in 1954, the Archdiocese of Oviedo (Latin: Oveten(sis); Asturleonese: Archidiócesis d'Uviéu) is a Latin Church Archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Spain. Its territory corresponds roughly to the present autonomous community of Asturias, the Principality of Asturias, and its see is in the city of Oviedo, home of the Catedral de San Salvador.

• Pastoral Universitaria increases plans for this course

  University Pastoral in the Archdiocese of Oviedo is increasing its weekly activities starting in October. Members of the group decided to move from biweekly to weekly meetings following a large turnout for the Pope's visit to Madrid. The group will meet every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the San Tirso church in Oviedo. The schedule includes praying the Rosary, celebrating the Eucharist, and holding discussions on current events after Mass. The meetings conclude with social time at local bars to encourage friendship. Priest Jaime Sanz, the delegate for University Pastoral, said the group includes students from various faculties across Asturias, including Gijón and Mieres, as well as professors. The activities are open to all university students, including those preparing for baptism.
