The Diocese of Annecy is a Latin rite diocese covering the Haute-Savoie department in eastern France, erected on 15 February 1822 from territory of the ancient Diocese of Geneva. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Lyon. Its seat is the Cathedral of St. Peter in Annecy.

History

Some 26 miles (42km) south of Geneva lies the Diocese of Annecy (Latin: Dioecesis Anneciensis; French: Diocèse d'Annecy), a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in France. Erected in 1822, after the Concordat, as a suffragan (ecclesiastical subordinate) of the archdiocese of Chambéry, it takes in the entirety of the department of Haute-Savoie in the Region of Rhône-Alpes; the town of Saint-Gingolph VS, in the Swiss canton of Valais, also belongs to the diocese.
