History

On the left, western bank of the Loire River, opposite Vienne, sits the base of the Diocese of Saint-Étienne (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Stephani; French: Diocèse de Saint-Étienne), a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in France located in the Loire department. By road, 51 km (32 mi) separate Vienne from Saint-Étienne.

  • Diocese of Saint-Etienne launches new Théophile formation program

    The Diocese of Saint-Etienne launched its Théophile training program on September 19 with a meeting at the diocesan house. The diocesan formation service team welcomed a new group of students to begin the academic year. During the launch, Father Bruno Cornier led discussions on the nature of a diocese and the mission of a bishop. Because the diocese is currently awaiting the appointment of a new bishop, students worked in small groups to prepare messages and presentations about the local Church to share with their future pastor. The program continues this week with a module on the New Testament.

  • Père Tung celebrates Saint Laurent in Villars

    Father Tung led a Mass for Saint Lawrence in Villars on Sunday, September 20, to honor the patron saint of the local church. The Villars bell tower leadership scheduled the celebration for this date to allow more parishioners to attend, as the saint is typically honored on August 10. The mayor and several municipal councilors attended the service. During the Mass, Father Tung asked for the intercession of Saint Lawrence for the residents of the commune. The celebration also marked the entry of Aurore, Cécile, André, and Simon into catechesis, which serves as the first step toward their first communion or confirmation.
