Diocese of Saint-Denis

History

Pope Paul VI erected the Diocese of Saint-Denis in Île-de-France (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Dionysii in Francia; French: Diocèse de Saint-Denis-en-France) in 1966, carving it from the Archdiocese of Paris and the Diocese of Versailles. A Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in France, it covers the department of Seine-Saint-Denis and remains a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Paris. As of 2020 it was preparing to twin with the Archdiocese of Owando in the Republic of Congo, a step that followed Mgr Pascal Delannoy's visit to Owando in July 2020.

• Paris Prepares to Receive Pope Leo XIV

  Paris expects approximately 1 million people to attend various events this weekend during the visit of Pope Leo XIV. • Diocese of Saint-Denis celebrates European Heritage Days at Bondy

  The Saint-Pierre Church in Bondy celebrated its 150th anniversary on September 19 during the European Heritage Days. To mark the occasion, the parish introduced a project to install a sculpted tympanum at the entrance of its courtyard, a space that has remained empty since the building was constructed in 1876. Olivier Vernet, who has worked on the Palace of Fontainebleau and the Palace of Chambord, attended the event to present a model of the work and perform a demonstration of stone carving on the courtyard.
