History
Established as the Diocese of Hartford in 1843, the Archdiocese of Hartford (Latin: Archidioecesis Hartfortiensis) is a metropolitan see of the Catholic Church in Connecticut in the United States, its ecclesiastical province also containing the dioceses of Bridgeport, Norwich, and Providence. The archdiocese covers Hartford, Litchfield and New Haven counties, with the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford as its mother church. Christopher J. Coyne is the archbishop.

A Connecticut Mother Who Lost Her Daughter in Sandy Hook Shooting Reflects on Forgiveness in New Memoir
Jennifer Hubbard, a Bethel resident who lost her six-year-old daughter, Catherine Violet, in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting, has released a new memoir titled Forgiving the Unforgivable: Seventy Times Seven. Published by Marian Press, the book explores Hubbard's experience with grief, anger, and loneliness as she uses her Catholic faith to navigate the process of forgiveness. Hubbard describes forgiveness as a transformation rather than a transaction, noting that choosing to forgive allows a person to live freely instead of clinging to pain. She writes that holding onto resentment prevents people from receiving the healing God offers. In the book's afterword, Bishop Frank J. Caggiano of Bridgeport states that Hubbard's decision to forgive her daughter's murderer is an act of love that demonstrates evil does not have the final word.

Parishioners in West Haven Pray to Our Blessed Mother on First Saturdays
Parishioners at St. John Vianney and St. Louis churches in West Haven gather on the first Saturday of every month to observe a devotion to the Blessed Mother. The monthly practice, which began at these churches four years ago, involves attending Mass followed by praying the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary in both English and Spanish. During a recent gathering on Sept. 5, approximately 80 people participated in the Mass celebrated by Father Israel Rivera. Following the rosary and meditation, Father Rivera blessed children gathered around a statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Eva Cestari, a Lay Dominican, and Marla Rapini introduced the devotion to the West Haven community. Cestari has practiced the devotion for 15 years as a way to make reparation for sin and godlessness in the world. Father Rivera said his own devotion to the Blessed Mother grew during his priesthood and that he views her as a model of discipleship.
