History

The island of Ischia, off Campania in southern Italy, forms in its entirety the territory of the Diocese of Ischia (Latin: Dioecesis Isclana), a Latin diocese suffragan to the Archdiocese of Naples. Seven communes, divided into two circumscriptions, make up the island. In 1743 the population stood at about 4,000, and the city of Ischia formed one single parish with two religious houses of men and one of women. By 2018 the town of Ischia counted 20,118 inhabitants.
