The Territorial Abbey of Montecassino in Lazio, Italy, stands on the site where St. Benedict of Nursia established his monastery around AD 529, the cradle of the Benedictine Order. On 23 October 2014 Pope Francis reduced its territorial jurisdiction from 53 parishes to the abbey itself, transferring the rest to the Diocese of Sora-Cassino-Aquino-Pontecorvo. Abbot Antonio Luca Fallica, O.S.B., was appointed in 2023.
