History

Within Sierra Leone's ecclesiastical province of Freetown lies the Diocese of Makeni, known in Latin as Makenen(sis). Its bishop's seat is the Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral in Makeni. The diocese passed through a difficult chapter in 2012, when most of its priests objected to the appointment of Henry Aruna as bishop; the see was declared vacant in April of that year.
