The Archdiocese of New York, erected as a diocese in 1808 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1850, is the metropolitan see for the Province of New York. Ronald A. Hicks was installed as the 11th archbishop on February 6, 2026, succeeding Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

History
Within the State of New York, the Archdiocese of New York (Latin: Archidiœcesis Neo-Eboracensis) is a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church. Its territory takes in three boroughs of New York City, Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island, along with seven counties north of the city: Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester.

The Good Newsroom’s Executive Editor Elected to Catholic Media Association’s Board of Directors
Mary Kate Polanin, the executive editor of The Good Newsroom, has been elected to the Catholic Media Association board of directors. She will fill a newly created position representing digital-only publications. Polanin serves as the executive editor for The Good Newsroom, the digital news outlet for the Archdiocese of New York. Her previous experience includes serving as the digital content editor for Busted Halo, a ministry of the Paulist Fathers, and working in multicultural public relations in New York. The Catholic Media Association president, Kerry Weber, noted that Polanin previously contributed to the association through her work on the planning committee for the Catholic Media Conference. The new board seat was established to represent the increasing number of digital communicators and online publications within the association. Polanin begins a three-year term immediately. Board directors are permitted to serve up to three consecutive terms.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral to Shine with Immersive ‘Luminiscence’ Experience
St. Patrick’s Cathedral will host an immersive experience called Luminiscence that uses 360-degree video mapping, music, and storytelling to showcase the cathedral's architecture and history. The program features narration by actor Jonathan Roumie and includes performances by a live orchestra and choir.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch To Address 81st Al Smith Dinner
Cardinal Timothy Dolan and New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch will speak at the 81st Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner on October 15, 2026. The event will take place at the Waldorf Astoria New York and is hosted for the first time by Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks. Archbishop Emeritus Timothy M. Dolan will deliver the keynote address, while Commissioner Tisch will receive the 2026 Happy Warrior Award. The annual dinner raises funds for charities that support vulnerable women and children within the Archdiocese of New York. The foundation has increased its annual grant allocations from $1 million to more than $5 million over the last twenty years. In 2025, the dinner raised a record $7.4 million during a non-presidential year.
