History
Established by Pope John XXIII on October 22, 1960, the Diocese of Borongan (Latin: Dioecesis Boronganensis) was carved from territory belonging to the Diocese of Calbayog. This Latin Church jurisdiction in the Philippines serves today as a suffragan see within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Palo.
