History
Sosnowiec, within the ecclesiastical province of Częstochowa in Poland, is the seat of this Latin Church diocese (Latin: Dioecesis Sosnoviensis). Weekly Sunday Mass attendance in 2013 stood at 27.5%, a slight rise from the 27.4% recorded the previous year.

Bishop Artur Ważny told members of the Scouts of Europe to make an impact on the world during a homily on September 27 at Święty Krzyż. Addressing the group at the conclusion of a pilgrimage, the bishop urged the scouts to live out their faith through action rather than mere declarations. In his sermon, Ważny spoke about male humility, brotherhood, and the importance of returning to God after failure. He addressed the crisis of trust in God and challenged the scouts to consider who Jesus is in their personal lives, including during moments of darkness, failure, or confusion.

Youth take over Sosnowiec on October 17
The third edition of the Strefa Młodych Festival will take place on October 17 at the Arena Sosnowiec. The event includes concerts, meetings, the Eucharist, adoration, and confession. The program begins at 11:00 with the Eucharist. Musical performances will feature AnMari, Arka Noego, and Arkadio. Bishop Artur Ważny is scheduled to give a conference in the evening, followed by worship to conclude the day.

Bp Artur Ważny publishes pastoral letter
Bishop Artur Ważny issued a pastoral letter for the 25th Ordinary Sunday (Year A) addressing the future of the Diocese of Sosnowiec. In the letter, published September 20, 2026, the bishop spoke about the declining number of priests, the merging of parishes, the responsibilities of laypeople, the synod, and the need for new vocations. Ważny urged the faithful to overcome fear and apathy, noting that empty church pews and the exhaustion of pastors can lead to pessimism. He called on the community to move toward one another to build the Church together.
