Romanian Greek Catholic (Byzantine-rite) eparchy erected 19 December 1853 as the Diocese of Gherla and reorganized in 1930 as Cluj-Gherla, suffragan of the Major Archeparchy of Fagaras and Alba Iulia. Its cathedral is the Transfiguration Cathedral in Cluj-Napoca. The see is vacant: Eparch Claudiu-Lucian Pop was elected Major Archbishop on 5 November 2025.

History
Founded in 1930, the Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla belongs to the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, an Eastern Catholic particular church in full communion with the Holy See; an eparchy is the equivalent of a diocese in the Latin Church. Its liturgies follow the Byzantine Rite in the Romanian language. The eparchy is a suffragan of the Major Archeparchy of Făgăraș and Alba Iulia.

Pr. Edmund Dujardi speaks at Intereparhial Meeting of Youth
Priest Edmund Dujardi delivered a catechesis titled "Change the world starting with your heart" during the Intereparchial Youth Meeting for the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia and Făgăraș and the Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla. Dujardi told young people that they cannot change the world without changing themselves first. He used a story about a crowling that needed to learn to fly rather than receive medical treatment to illustrate his point. He noted that while people often desire to do good, individual or group perspectives on what is good can lead to conflict or violence. Dujardi suggested that God serves as the objective standard for true transformation and the measure of what is good.
