Romanian Greek Catholic (Byzantine-rite) eparchy erected 19 December 1853 as the Diocese of Gherla and reorganized in 1930 as Cluj-Gherla, suffragan of the Major Archeparchy of Fagaras and Alba Iulia. Its cathedral is the Transfiguration Cathedral in Cluj-Napoca. The see is vacant: Eparch Claudiu-Lucian Pop was elected Major Archbishop on 5 November 2025.

History

Founded in 1930, the Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla belongs to the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, an Eastern Catholic particular church in full communion with the Holy See; an eparchy is the equivalent of a diocese in the Latin Church. Its liturgies follow the Byzantine Rite in the Romanian language. The eparchy is a suffragan of the Major Archeparchy of Făgăraș and Alba Iulia.
