Diocese of Saint Cloud

History

Central Minnesota belongs to the Diocese of Saint Cloud (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Clodoaldi), a suffragan of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. The Cathedral of St. Mary in St. Cloud serves as its mother church, and St. Clodoald is the diocese's patron saint. Patrick Neary has served as bishop since 2023.

Organizers estimated that approximately 50,000 pilgrims attended the event, which the Diocese of Peoria selected in St. Louis to accommodate the large crowd. The beatification was moved forward by a declared miracle involving James Fulton Engstrom, who was revived from stillbirth in 2010 through the intercession of Sheen. During the ceremony, Engstrom presented a relic of Sheen consisting of his jawbone, chosen to represent his work as an orator and teacher. In his homily, Cardinal Tagle, who serves as pro-prefect for the Holy See's Dicastery for Evangelization, described Sheen as a missionary shepherd who achieved blessedness through unity with Christ. He noted that Pope Leo XIV described Sheen in an apostolic letter as a tireless preacher of the Gospel through modern communication.
