History

Seated in Trnava, this Latin Catholic archdiocese (Slovak: Trnavská arcidiecéza, Latin: Archidioecesis Tyrnaviensis) covers most of the Trnava region along with parts of the Nitra and Trenčín regions in western Slovakia. Despite its archiepiscopal rank it is not a metropolitan see; it stands instead as a suffragan of Bratislava. In 2013 Pope Francis named Auxiliary Bishop Ján Orosch its next archbishop.
