History

In the Apulian province of Barletta-Andria-Trani lies the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie (Latin: Archidioecesis Tranensis-Barolensis-Vigiliensis (-Nazarensis)), a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church in Italy. Once a metropolitan see, it was made a suffragan archdiocese in 1980 within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto. The present name dates from 1986, when the Archdiocese of Trani (which had itself been a suffragan until 1063) took into its title the names of two suppressed dioceses that were merged into it.
