History

Erected in 1807, the Archeparchy of Lviv is an ecclesiastical territory and province of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, a particular Eastern Catholic Church in Ukraine. As a metropolitan see it counts three suffragans, Stryi, Sambir-Drohobych, and Sokal-Zhovkva. Ihor Vozniak is the incumbent Metropolitan Archbishop, and the cathedral church of the archeparchy is St. George's in the city of Lviv.

  • Renovabis holds congress on overcoming polarization

    Renovabis held its 30th International Congress in Freising, Germany, from September 16 to 18 to discuss overcoming social polarization and strengthening solidarity. More than 200 participants from 26 countries attended the event, which focused on the theme of social cohesion between the East and the West. Participants discussed causes of social division, declining trust in institutions, and the impact of the war in Ukraine on society. Discussions also included the synodality of the Church and ways to strengthen solidarity across Europe. Bishop Volodymyr, an auxiliary bishop of the Archeparchy of Lviv, attended the congress alongside Father Thomas Schwartz, the executive director of Renovabis. Other attendees included Toms Rostoks from Latvia. Organized annually since 1997 on behalf of the German Bishops' Conference, the congress serves as a platform for dialogue between representatives from Central, Eastern, Southeastern, and Western Europe regarding issues facing the Church and society.
