History
Created on 14 December 2005 out of territory taken from the Archdiocese of Benin City, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Uromi (Dioecesis Uromiensis) is a Latin Church diocese in Nigeria. Augustine Obiora Akubeze served as its first bishop, and its seat is the Cathedral of St Anthony of Padua in Uromi, Edo State. The canonical erection of the diocese, together with the episcopal ordination of its bishop, took place on Saturday, February 25, 2006.
