History

In Liguria, northern Italy, the Diocese of Ventimiglia-Sanremo (Latin: Dioecesis Ventimiliensis-Sancti Romuli) continues the historic Diocese of Ventimiglia (dioecesis Albintimiliensis, and Intimiliensis), whose name was changed in 1975. Originally a suffragan of the Metropolitanate of Milan, it passed in 1806 to the Metropolitanate of Aix, and since 1818 it has been a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Genoa.

    The Diocese of Ventimiglia–San Remo will celebrate the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Rosary on October 10 and 11, 2026, at the former Dominican Convent and Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia in Taggia. The festivities begin Saturday, October 10, at 16.00 with a concert honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary performed by the Coro Sibi Consoni. On Sunday, October 11, a solemn Mass will take place at 11.00 presided over by Simone Grisolia. A Supplication to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Holy Rosary will be held at 12.00. The celebration concludes with a community lunch at the convent at 12.30.

    The San Secondo Diocesan Theological School in the Diocese of Ventimiglia–San Remo will begin its 12th year on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The school will hold its first semester at the diocesan curia, offering eight courses taught by nine instructors. Wednesday afternoon sessions include a study of religions taught by Chiara Dalmasso and Alessandro Marenco, a workshop led by Anna Rosaria Gioeni, a history of the Ponente ligure with Don Nuccio Garibaldi, and a course on Francesco d’Assisi taught by Vincenzo Renda. Thursday afternoon sessions feature a philosophy course taught by Donatella Lauria.

    The Istituto Teologico Pio XI of Sanremo has released the 5th volume of its scientific series, Analecta Sancti Romuli. Titled L’uomo politecnico, the book explores anthropological and ethical reflections on the challenges of artificial intelligence. Giorgia Brambilla edited the volume, which includes a preface by Bishop Renzo Pegoraro, the president of the Pontificia Accademia per la Vita. Edizioni della Santa Croce published the work in Rome.
