History

In central Italy, the Latin Church diocese seated at Viterbo (Latin: Dioecesis Viterbiensis) bore the official name Diocese of Viterbo e Tuscania from the 12th century. A merger of several dioceses in 1986 produced the lengthy title "Diocese of Viterbo, Acquapendente, Bagnoregio, Montefiascone, Tuscania and San Martino al Monte Cimino", which was shortened in 1991 to "Diocese of Viterbo".
