History

The Diocese of Civita Castellana (Latin: Dioecesis Civitatis Castellanae), a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church in Latium, central Italy, took its present form in 1986, when the Diocese of Nepi e Sutri was joined to the Diocese of Civita Castellana, Orte e Gallese. Earlier, in 1805, the Diocese of Gallese had been added to the Dioceses of Civita Castellana and Orte. The name was shortened in 1991 in keeping with Vatican policies. The see is immediately exempt to the Holy See.
