Pope Leo XIV asks Church to be open to those suffering from anxiety and depression

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV has asked the Church to integrate mental health ministry throughout its communities to support people facing anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses. In his prayer intention for October, the Pontiff called for the Church to act as an open house and a safe space where everyone has a place.

The Pope requested that the Church accompany those suffering from mental health challenges without judgment to help combat stigma and discrimination. His prayer intention includes an image of Saint Dimpna, who is traditionally invoked as the patron saint of people with mental disorders and those who care for them.
