Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi says being disarmed is the way to face reality
Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi said during an international peace meeting in Assisi that peace is a daily dimension requiring kindness and gentleness. Speaking at the event organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio, Zuppi noted that Saint Francis of Assisi transformed from a warrior into a man who used compassion and courtesy rather than weapons.
Bishop Felice Accrocca, who leads the diocese of Assisi, Nocera Umbra, Gualdo Tadino, and Foligno, spoke at the meeting titled Saint Francis and Peace. Accrocca stated that the authentic writings of the saint emphasize a peaceful and unarmed lifestyle. He cited the saint's ability to bring peace to cities like Arezzo during times of civil war as a lesson applicable to modern challenges such as increasing loneliness and the need for a project of humanity.
