Pope Leo XIV asks for prayer for mental health pastoral care

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV has dedicated his prayer intention for October to the pastoral care of mental health. He is inviting the faithful and people of goodwill to pray that the Church becomes an open home capable of accompanying those facing mental health difficulties without judgment or rejection.

The prayer includes those suffering from anxiety, depression, or other mental illnesses, as well as the professionals, family members, and volunteers who care for them. The Pope asks for forgiveness for times when the community has ignored these struggles, contributing to stigma and discrimination. He asks for the strength and compassion of those providing care and prays that Christian communities integrate mental health care into the life and mission of the Church.
