Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV has declared Don Oreste Marengo venerable. The announcement was made during an audience on Friday, October 24, by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

Don Marengo was a Salesian priest born in Diano d'Alba on August 29, 1906. He traveled to India in 1923 and served as the titular bishop of Arsacal and apostolic administrator of Tura. He died in Tura on July 30, 1998.

Conrad K. Sangma, head of the government of Meghalaya, stated that the proclamation honors the bishop's service to the populations of India and the Garo community. Bishop Marco Brunetti of Alba and parish priest Valerio Pennasso expressed joy regarding the news in the bishop's home diocese.
