Pope Leo XIV: Marital love is tireless and faithful ‘Yes’ for a lifetime

Catholic Intelligence1 min read

Pope Leo XIV told young people in Lebanon that marriage is a lifelong covenant and a decision to love as Christ loved. During a meeting with the group, the pope described marital love as a deep commitment rather than a fleeting emotion.

He explained that authentic love reflects the eternal nature of God and requires mutual trust to remain solid and fruitful. According to the pope, true love prioritizes service, generous self-giving, and forgiveness, asking how to love others rather than what can be gained from the relationship. He noted that this type of love is central to both family life and religious consecration.
