Pope Leo XIV to visit Cusco

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to visit Cusco, Peru, for an apostolic visit that includes a Marian encounter at Sacsayhuamán and the Angelus in the Plaza de Armas.

The Archbishop of Lima is producing a documentary series titled "León XIV vuelve a casa" to detail the preparations for the visit.

Richard Daniel Alarcón Urrutia, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Cusco, described the Pope as a simple and serene person who fosters an environment of peace. Archbishop Alarcón noted that the Pope previously served in the north of the country and worked with the Conferencia Episcopal Peruana (CEP). He recalled a previous occasion when the Pope traveled to the Cusco Cathedral during the pandemic to help celebrate the ordination of auxiliary bishop Lizardo Estrada.
