Seminarians from St. Paul attend beatification Mass of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
Seminarians from The St. Paul Seminary and St. John Vianney College Seminary traveled to St. Louis to attend the beatification Mass of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. More than 100 students from The St. Paul Seminary and 16 students from St. John Vianney College Seminary participated in the event.
The trip included listening to radio archives of the late archbishop, attending an expo at the Dome at America’s Center, and visiting the tomb of Blessed Sheen in Peoria, Illinois. The St. Paul Seminary rector, Father Joseph Taphorn, noted that 102 of the seminary's 104 students attended the Mass. Archbishop Sheen previously studied at The St. Paul Seminary between 1917 and 1919.
Jack Van Moorleghem, a second-year seminarian from the Archdiocese of Omaha, said the journey included the veneration of the relics of Blessed Sheen. The St. John Vianney College Seminary group was accompanied by rector Father Jonathan Kelly and vice-rector Father Jim Olofson.
