The Archdiocese of Omaha originated as the Apostolic Vicariate of Nebraska (1857), became a diocese in 1885, and was elevated to an archdiocese in 1945. It is the metropolitan see for northeastern Nebraska with suffragans Grand Island and Lincoln, led by Archbishop Michael G. McGovern since 2025.
