Pope Leo XIV visits Lourdes

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

A Palestinian Christian pilgrim was held in police custody for 37 to 39 hours in Lourdes after displaying a Palestinian flag during Pope Leo XIV's visit on September 26.

The pilgrim, identified by the pseudonym Abdel-Massih, traveled to Lourdes for a pilgrimage of thanksgiving to pray with the pope. According to reports from cath.ch and La Croix, the individual unfurled the flag a few minutes before the pope arrived. The pilgrim described the detention as an injustice.
