Catholic Archbishop Cautions Nigerians against “ethnic bigots and religious extremists” out to Cause Division
Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja urged Nigerians to resist the tactics of politicians, ethnic bigots, and religious extremists who use differences to create suspicion and hatred. During a homily on September 20 at Holy Cross Gwarampa Parish in Abuja, he spoke during a cultural celebration and warned that diversity should be a source of unity rather than a weapon for division. Kaigama stated that people should not view different tribes, languages, or cultures as enemies. He encouraged Nigerians to use culture as a tool for unity in politics and religion. The Archbishop noted that while Christians may come from different cultural backgrounds, they remain one in Christ through their shared faith and the Eucharist. He called on the faithful to let their various cultures enrich the Church and act as a bridge rather than a wall.
