The Ethiopian Catholic Archeparchy of Addis Abeba is the metropolitan see of the Ethiopian Catholic Church, an Eastern Catholic Church of the Ge'ez (Alexandrian) rite, not Latin rite. It was established as an apostolic exarchate in 1951 and raised to a metropolitan archeparchy in 1961, with suffragan eparchies including Adigrat, Bahir Dar-Dessie, and Emdeber.

History

Officially the Metropolitan sui iuris Archeparchy of Addis Abeba (Latin: Metropolitana sui iuris archieparchia Neanthopolitana), this Ethiopian Catholic see serves as the metropolitan seat of the Ethiopian Catholic Church, a sui iuris metropolitan Eastern Catholic Church. Three suffragan eparchies depend on it. Its cathedral, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, stands in the national capital Addis Ababa.
