Its lineage runs from the Apostolic Prefecture of Hosanna (erected 13 February 1940) through elevation to apostolic vicariate on 15 October 1982. It is immediately subject to the Holy See.

History
Centered on the city of Sodo in Ethiopia, the Apostolic Vicariate of Soddo (Latin: Vicariatus Apostolicus Soddensis) is a Roman Catholic apostolic vicariate. Its territory takes in the Wolayta, Dawro, Gamu Gofa, and North and South Omo zones together with the Derashe, Konso and Konta special Weredas, all within the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region.
