The Diocese of Valledupar is a Latin rite diocese covering Cesar department, Colombia, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Barranquilla. Erected as the Apostolic Vicariate of Valledupar on 4 December 1952 from the suppressed Vicariate of Goajira, it was elevated to a diocese on 25 April 1969. Its seat is the Cathedral of Santo Ecce Homo in Valledupar.

Located in Cesar Department, Colombia, this diocese (Latin: Valleduparensis) has its cathedral in the city of Valledupar and belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Barranquilla. It has drawn notice for its efforts to improve hospital care in the region.

  • Diocese of Valledupar commemorates Our Lady of Mercy with Eucharist in high-security prison

    Bishop Óscar José Vélez and priest Jairo Martínez celebrated Mass at a high security prison to honor Our Lady of Mercy, the patron saint of people deprived of liberty. The Diocese of Valledupar's prison ministry organized the Eucharist to provide spiritual support to the incarcerated population. During the Mass, the bishop and the prison chaplain, Father Martínez, led prayers for the inmates, their families, and the prison guards. The Diocese of Valledupar stated the gathering served to offer messages of hope and faith to those in prison. The event also highlighted the ongoing work of the prison ministry in providing spiritual accompaniment and religious teaching within correctional facilities.

  • Diocese of Valledupar forms 9 new communities of couples

    The Diocese of Valledupar formed nine new communities of couples following a formation weekend held at the Juan Pablo II Seminary. Approximately 80 couples from various parishes participated in the event to begin a new stage of diocesan formation. The new communities include members from parishes in Valledupar, San Juan del Cesar, Curumaní, Chiriguaná, and La Jagua de Ibirico. Eleven catechists and the Diocesan Commission assisted the participants during the weekend. Bishop Óscar José Vélez Isaza presided over the Sunday Eucharist to mark the start of the couples' shared formation process.
