The Archdiocese of San Jose de Costa Rica is the Latin rite metropolitan see of Costa Rica, with seven suffragan dioceses covering the whole country. Erected as a diocese on 28 February 1850 from the Diocese of Nicaragua, it was elevated to an archdiocese on 16 February 1921. Its seat is the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Joseph in San Jose.
