The Archdiocese of Munich and Freising is a Latin Church metropolitan archdiocese in Bavaria, Germany, tracing to the Diocese of Freising founded in 739 and elevated to an archdiocese with the seat in Munich in 1818. It is led by Cardinal Reinhard Marx since 2007, and was previously led by Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI).

History
Bavaria's Archdiocese of Munich and Freising (German: Erzbistum München und Freising, Latin: Archidioecesis Monacensis et Frisingensis) is a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church in Germany, governed by the Archbishop of Munich and Freising. He administers the see from the co-cathedral in Munich, the Frauenkirche; the much older second co-cathedral is Freising Cathedral.
